Shots were fired at a mosque in Hollabrunn during the night into Sunday. According to police, a projectile penetrated the door frame at the entrance. Investigations by the Lower Austria State Office for State Security and Extremism Prevention (LSE) are ongoing.
At the mosque on Znaimer Straße in Hollabrunn, the projectile reportedly pierced the entrance door frame, entered the vestibule and passed through a double glass pane, police said. The projectile was later recovered in the inner courtyard. Nearby residents reported loud noises. According to police spokesperson Mario Pfeiffer, the shot—believed to have been fired from a handgun—likely occurred shortly before midnight.
The prayer house is used by an association of Albanian Muslims. Immediately before the incident, about six people had left the building. No one was inside the mosque at the time of the shooting, and no injuries were reported. A crime scene unit secured evidence at the building, and witnesses were questioned on Sunday. As of Sunday afternoon, police said there were no concrete leads on suspects.
Extremist motive under review
The investigation is being conducted jointly by the State Office for State Security and Extremism Prevention and the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office. Authorities are investigating on suspicion of serious property damage, and a possible extremist motive is being examined.
Police are asking anyone with information about the unknown suspect or suspects to contact the Hollabrunn police station at +43 59 133/3410.
