Following a rocket attack by terrorists on Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Austrian Airlines (AUA) has canceled all three scheduled round-trip flights between Vienna and Israel for Sunday, according to the online portal austrianwings. No AUA flights were operated on Monday either. Budget airlines Wizz Air and Ryanair have also suspended their flights to and from Israel until at least Tuesday.

The AUA flights initially affected on Sunday were OS 857 (scheduled for 10:00 AM), OS 861 (1:15 PM), and OS 859 (8:20 PM). Flights to Israel on Monday and Tuesday have also been canceled. “After carefully assessing the current situation and in coordination with the Lufthansa Group, Austrian Airlines will suspend all flights to and from Tel Aviv from May 4 to May 6, 2025, inclusive,” the airline announced over the weekend.

Wizz Air Plans Quick Resumption, El Al Continues Operations

Budget carriers Wizz Air and Ryanair also canceled their Sunday departures at 2:40 PM and 3:30 PM, respectively, according to the airport’s departure schedule. However, Wizz Air intends to resume flights Tuesday morning. “Based on a security review, Wizz Air decided to suspend operations at TLV for 24 hours. Flights are set to resume on May 6, Tuesday morning,” a spokesperson told APA Monday afternoon. “We are closely monitoring the situation — the safety of our customers, crew, and aircraft remains our top priority.”

Israel’s national airline El Al continued to operate according to its schedule. It completed a Sunday flight at 10:35 AM, and a second was planned for 9:35 PM. El Al aircraft are equipped with onboard defense systems and accompanied by armed security personnel. The rocket attack, claimed by the Houthi militia, left six people injured.
