The government will observe three days of national mourning in response to the attack at a Graz school that left multiple dead, Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) announced Tuesday afternoon at a press conference in Graz. All of Austria will commemorate the victims during the three days, and the Austrian flag will fly at half-mast on all public buildings. On Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., a nationwide minute of silence for the victims will also be held.

“The solidarity of the entire country should offer some comfort to the bereaved families of the victims of this horrific act in these dark hours,” Stocker concluded. A cabinet decree is required to institute the mourning period, a spokeswoman for the chancellor told APA. It is expected to pass today, Tuesday, by circular resolution.
