The discovery of a 250-kilogram World War II bomb near the train station in Wörgl (Kufstein district) led to a multi-hour suspension of rail traffic and the evacuation of nearby buildings on Wednesday afternoon. The bomb was uncovered around 1:40 p.m. during excavation work with an excavator beside the tracks. After being defused by the bomb disposal unit, ÖBB was able to resume service in the evening.

The American‐made aerial bomb was removed, and the evacuations lifted, said Kufstein’s deputy district police commander, Christoph Moser. Shortly after 7 p.m., the rail closure was also ended and train services resumed, ÖBB reported.

Officials warned that delays and restrictions could persist through the evening, asking for public understanding. ÖBB spokesman Christoph Gasser-Mair had already indicated to APA in the afternoon that—even once given the “go ahead”—services cannot be restored instantly.
