The Beer Party has become the second party not yet represented in parliament to qualify for Austria’s upcoming parliamentary elections in September following the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), according to a press release issued on Friday.
Founded in 2015 as a satirical political movement, the Beer Party (Bierpartei) has collected the necessary 2,600 signatures of support to stand in the elections on September 29. On the ballot, the party will be listed under the name BIER. Opinion polls suggest that the party is likely to secure enough votes to gain seats in the National Council, the lower chamber of parliament that makes most of the laws.

They will be competing alongside the five parties currently in parliament – the ÖVP, SPÖ, FPÖ, NEOS and the Green Party.
The Beer Party’s most notable achievement to date was in the 2022 presidential election, where party leader Dominik Wlazny received 8.3% of the national vote and finished in third place.
