Climate Activists Deflate Tyres of 40 Cars in Vienna

Luftnot Kollektiv

A group of climate activists deflated the tyres of 40 cars in Vienna’s 18th district, Währing, on Tuesday night, the group claimed.

Writing on X, the anonymous Luftnot Kollektiv said they targeted SUVs – typically large 4×4 vehicles – which they described as “climate killers.” They also reportedly left leaflets on the cars’ windscreens.

“SUVs are a disaster to our health and safety,” the group’s post said.

The group appears to be affiliated with the Tyre Extinguishers movement, which has claimed responsibility for deflating car tyres in Vienna before.

Police said they launched an investigation on suspicion of damage to property and called in the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Extremism for assistance.

Earlier this month, high-profile environmental activist group Last Generation Austria announced that it was stopping all its activity and protests. The group was known for activists gluing themselves to surfaces, including at Vienna Airport.
