A small aircraft crashed on Tuesday around 1:30 PM near the Zell am See airport. According to initial reports, there was one male occupant in the single-engine plane, who tragically died in the accident. “The emergency services are on site,” said a spokesperson for the Salzburg State Police Department.

The crash occurred, according to Pinzgau District Fire Chief Klaus Portenkirchner, during the plane’s approach to the airport. The aircraft came to a stop in a field and did not catch fire. The cause of the crash, as well as the nationality and age of the pilot, were not immediately known. The Aviation Accident Commission will conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
