In Golling (Tennengau), the roof of a multi-family house was completely destroyed by fire on Wednesday. The blaze broke out early in the morning and has since been brought under control, said local fire chief Gerald Dygruber. However, as of 7:00 AM, there were still hotspots in the building. Around 20 residents had to be evacuated, and the house is currently uninhabitable. Fortunately, no one was injured.

“The problem was that the fire spread so quickly,” Dygruber explained. “We initially had difficulty accessing the roof space because everything inside was covered with drywall. We had to open the roof and remove parts of the roof structure.” The cause of the fire is still unclear, but it is believed to have originated from an unoccupied top-floor apartment.

Lungau: 23 Residents Evacuate Unharmed

Also on Wednesday morning, multiple fire departments were deployed in St. Michael in Lungau. At around 5:30 AM, parts of a balcony and the roof of a residential building caught fire. “23 people in the house had safely evacuated before the fire department arrived,” said Thomas Keidel from the district fire command. In the Lungau fire, the firefighters also had to open the roof to bring the fire under control. By morning, hotspots were still being extinguished.

According to police, the fire was most likely caused by an electrical fault in the wiring of a roof gutter heater. Initial damage estimates are around 450,000 euros.

Pongau: Fire Likely Caused by Hot Ashes in Biomass Bin

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, a carport in Altenmarkt (Pongau) was fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread to parts of the adjacent house, but multiple fire departments managed to prevent further spread and extinguish the blaze. The 84-year-old resident was uninjured. Fire investigators believe that the fire was sparked by hot ashes disposed of in a compost bin. The damage is estimated to be in the six-figure range.
