Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Austria on Tuesday and Wednesday, the first state visit to Vienna by an Indian head of state in 41 years.

The last Indian leader to visit Vienna was Indira Gandhi in June 1983.

Modi will arrive in Austria following a two-day visit to Moscow.

During his visit, he will hold talks with Chancellor Karl Nehammer and President Alexander Van der Bellen. Additionally, he will meet with members of the Austrian business community.

The discussions will focus on bilateral economic ties and the ongoing war in Ukraine, particularly given India’s close relationship with the Kremlin.

India is one of Austria’s foremost trading partners outside the EU, with bilateral trade reaching approximately €2.7 billion in 2023. Currently, around 150 Austrian companies operate in India, including 60 in production, 40 in technical services, and 50 with sales offices.
