A confrontation at the Keplerplatz subway station in Vienna-Favoriten ended on Saturday night with a knife wound and a robbery. According to police spokesperson Markus Dittrich, a 31-year-old witness saw a man shouting at another and threatening him with a knife around 2:00 AM. The witness then grabbed his phone to film the incident. The aggressor noticed this and threatened the witness with the knife as well.
The aggressor then returned to arguing with his victim, a 24-year-old Afghan national, and inflicted a superficial knife wound on his shoulder. The attacker took the victim’s cash, apartment key, and casino card before fleeing the scene. The visibly shocked victim was left behind. Meanwhile, the witness alerted the police.
Search for the Suspect Proves Unsuccessful
Officers from the Ada-Christen-Gasse police station and WEGA (Special Task Force) searched for the aggressor. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a green-grey jacket, a white hoodie, blue-grey jeans or jogging pants, grey shoes with white soles, and a black cap or hood. He was also reportedly accompanied by another individual. However, the immediate search was unsuccessful.
The 24-year-old victim received medical attention from the emergency services but declined to be taken to a hospital. His testimony, as well as that of the witness, was still pending on Saturday morning. Investigations have been taken over by the South division of the State Criminal Office. It is not ruled out that the suspect and victim knew each other.
