National Resources Forum: 14 Sessions on Longevity and Resource Efficiency

RFA/Pirato

Salzburg – Last week (27-28 May), the 6th National Resources Forum took place in Salzburg. More than 500 guests visited the hybrid held event, which under the motto “Long life for products, people and nature” stood. Representatives from the economy (industry, trade, agriculture), education and science, public administration, and politics discussed how resources can be saved and economic successes achieved. Fourteen sessions, five panels, and three key speeches (by Michael Leube of IE University Madrid, Nina Eisenmenger of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, and Harald Friedl of the Circular Economy Innovation Agency) provided diverse insights.

The president of Resources Forum Austria, Florian Iro, drew a positive balance after the event: “We meet with our topic as much interest as never before. Circular economy secures the competitiveness of tomorrow and can become our location advantage.” Whoever relies on durable products, reuse, and resource efficiency lowers costs and becomes more crisis‐resistant. Therefore, Iro appealed: “There are solutions for resource‐conserving action without restrictions. Our linear economic system reaches its limits. Politics, companies, and consumers are jointly required so that the circular economy can become the key for a resource‐conserving, future‐capable society.”

The Resources Forum Austria is an independent, non-profit platform that has been advocating for the circular economy and resource efficiency since 2013 – in the economy, in politics, in municipalities, and in our everyday lives. The National Resources Forum was a stage for numerous entrepreneurs and experts from all over Austria and beyond, among others with representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture, the Platform Industry 4.0, TU Vienna, the Task Force Circular Economy, the Circular Economy Forum Austria, the Environment Agency Austria, Austria Tourism, Trending Topics and many more.

Main sponsors and supporters of the 6th National Resources Forum are the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism (now: Land and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management), the State of Salzburg, the Stiegl Brewery, Salzburg AG, as well as the Raiffeisen Sustainability Initiative. Further support comes from Altstoff Recycling Austria, LIDL, UNIQA, Maschinenring, fairphone, Salzburg Wohnbau, City of Salzbur,g as well as the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Salzburg Economic Chamber.
