Vienna’s public pools have seen strong visitor numbers this summer, surpassing last year’s figures, despite a rainy start to the season, according to city officials.
“We managed to make up for the slow start in June, and now in the holiday months as well,” Martin Kotinsky, spokesman for Vienna’s public baths (MA44), told ORF. “We have clearly exceeded the two million mark.”
The final tally will be confirmed on September 16, when Vienna’s outdoor pools close for the season.
July was likely the strongest month, with 96,599 visitors at Alte Donau, 104,646 at Kongreßbad, and the top performer, Gänsehäufel, with 253,470 admissions.
Sunday, September 8, may have marked the last day for swimming this year, according to the weather forecast.
Although swimming-related accidents remained unchanged, bee and wasp stings noticeably increased, with the recent heatwave creating additional challenges for pool attendants.
