Tightened Security for Coldplay Concerts

Security measures have been stepped up for the upcoming series of concerts by British pop rock band Coldplay in Vienna, following the cancellation of Taylor Swift’s shows due to a terror threat.

Coldplay are set to play four sold-out shows at the Ernst Happel Stadium from Wednesday to Saturday, the same venue where US megastar Swift was scheduled to perform.

The Ministry of the Interior has stated that there are currently no specific security concerns.

However, extensive restricted areas and pedestrian checkpoints stretching up to Praterstern are planned, and concertgoers are advised to allow extra time for their journey. Spectators approaching the stadium will be searched and will need to present a ticket, according to police spokesman Markus Dittrich.

Police dogs, specialised police units and drones will be deployed, while all staff will undergo screening.

“Regarding the Coldplay concerts, it has been agreed with the organiser that all employees will be named, and these will then be vetted by the state police in coordination with the security authorities,” said Dittrich.

In the case of the Taylor Swift cancellations, one of the terror suspects was employed at the stadium.

All measures will be taken in close coordination with the organisers.
