The University of Vienna has climbed to 110th place in the latest World University Rankings, moving up nine spots from last year.
This puts it among the top 5% of universities worldwide.
Domestically, it continues to hold first place among the 12 Austrian institutions included in the rankings, with the Medical University of Graz and the Medical University of Vienna following.
The university’s improvement was largely driven by its performance in key research metrics, according to a statement.
The World University Rankings, published annually by Times Higher Education (THE), evaluate institutions based on teaching, research, citations, knowledge transfer, industry collaboration, and international outlook. Seventeen indicators, each weighted differently, are used in the assessment. The rankings also heavily factor in a reputation survey conducted among academics.
This year, the University of Oxford secured the top spot, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University taking second and third places, respectively.
