Vienna has already met its target for expanding solar energy systems in 2024, according to a press statement released by the city government on Monday.
The goal of achieving an expansion of 50 megawatts (MW) of solar power at peak performance within the city area this year was exceeded six months early.
Currently, Vienna generates over 200 MW of solar power annually at peak performance.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 1,500 new photovoltaic installations have been added, bringing the total number to 10,000, which provide enough solar power to meet the needs of over 57,500 households in Vienna.
“Just in December 2023, we announced our last record expansion, and now we can celebrate again,” commented Jürgen Czernohorszky, Vienna’s climate councillor. “Solar power is a crucial factor in the energy transition, and by 2030, we aim to supply about a quarter of Vienna’s population with solar power.”
