Winter tourism has experienced positive growth in the first three months of the 2024/2025 season. From November 2024 to January 2025, hotels, guesthouses, and vacation apartments recorded a total of 34.16 million overnight stays, an increase of 6.4% compared to the previous year, according to Statistics Austria on Friday.
“The increase is attributed to both the rise in international guests and an increase in domestic overnight stays,” said Tobias Thomas, Director-General of Statistics Austria. However, foreign guests accounted for 26.38 million overnight stays, a 7.1% increase, while Austrian vacationers contributed 7.77 million overnight stays, a rise of 4.1%.
For January, 15.96 million overnight stays were reported, marking a 2.9% increase compared to the previous year. The number of arrivals also rose by 6.1%, leading to a reduction in the average length of stay. The main countries of origin were Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
