Austria’s team for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris comprises 80 athletes, with almost equal numbers of men and women, according to team head Christoph Sieber.
This makes it Austria’s largest delegation to a Summer Olympics since Sydney 2000, which featured 94 athletes.
The Paris Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
Currently, the Austrian contingent, which could still grow, includes 43 male and 37 female athletes competing across 18 of the 32 sports disciplines.
Judoka Michaela Polleres and canoeist Felix Oschmautz have been selected as Austria’s flag bearers for the opening ceremony along the Seine.
Austria’s Chief de Mission Christoph Sieber has set a target of securing between five to ten medals.
Austria enjoyed notable success at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, securing seven medals, including a gold medal won by Anna Kiesenhofer. In contrast, the country managed only one medal, a bronze, at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games, achieved by the sailing duo Thomas Zajac and Tanja Frank. London 2012 marked Austria’s first Summer Games in 58 years without any medals.
