Austrian Airlines (AUA) has extended its flight suspension to Israel, Iran, Iraq and Jordan due to escalating tensions in the region.

The suspension, originally set to end on August 13, will now continue until August 21.

The extension affects flights to Tel Aviv (Israel), Tehran (Iran), Erbil (Iraq) and Amman (Jordan). In response to the cancellations, the airline is offering affected passengers the option of free rebooking or full refunds. The decision follows a thorough safety review conducted by the airline’s crisis management team.

Flights operated by AUA’s parent company Lufthansa, as well as Swiss and Eurowings, are also impacted by the measure.

The development comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, with concerns that regional hostilities could extend beyond Israel and the Gaza Strip. Reports suggest that Iran is contemplating direct military action against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran earlier this month.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in Haniyeh’s death.

The final AUA flight between Vienna and Tel Aviv landed in Vienna on August 8.
