A EuroCity train traveling through Bavaria was brought to a halt after colliding with a tree that had fallen onto the tracks near Bad Endorf in the Rosenheim district on Tuesday evening. The train, designated EC 117 and operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), was carrying approximately 260 passengers at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, according to the German Federal Police.

The collision occurred after 7:00 PM, rendering the stretch of track between Bad Endorf and Prien near Lake Chiemsee impassable. The train struck the tree, which subsequently fell onto the train, also damaging the overhead power lines. As a result, passengers were transported to Prien by small buses while repairs to the overhead lines were underway.

Railway authorities worked through the night to restore the line, successfully reopening it around 1:30 AM. However, the train remained at the accident site late into the evening. A decision was pending on whether the train would need to be towed or could continue its journey once power was restored, according to a railway spokesperson.

The incident disrupted long-distance train services, with some trains forced to terminate early or turn back, leading to partial cancellations. A ÖBB spokesperson advised passengers to check online for updates on connections and potential cancellations.

The storm that caused the tree to fall also led to further disruptions in rail services across other regions, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria, where vegetation fell onto the tracks in several areas. Railway officials urged travelers to remain vigilant and stay informed about potential delays or cancellations.
