The initiative, run by the Climate Protection Ministry, allows individuals, as well as businesses, clubs and municipalities to apply for grants to help buy both electric and non-electric transport and folding bikes.
The definition of transport bicycle includes models with a manufacturer’s loading capacity of over 60kg, down from the previous 80kg threshold.
The maximum bonus amount is €900 for electric transport bikes and €500 for electric folding bikes. Businesses and municipalities purchasing at least five e-bikes will receive up to €300 per bicycle. Funding is capped at 30% of eligible costs, or 50% for private individuals.
“Cycling protects the climate and boosts health. More people are cycling, and we want to support this. I’m pleased that we can continue the popular bike funding for businesses, municipalities, clubs, and private individuals this year,” said Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.
In 2023, nearly 10,000 bikes were funded, including 3,774 e-bikes, 3,301 e-transport bikes, and 2,522 e-folding bikes. Private individuals received 82% of the funding for transport bikes and 96% for folding bikes.
