Austrian Airlines (AUA) continued to lead passenger traffic at Vienna Airport in 2024, holding a 46% market share, according to figures released by the airport.
However, Irish budget airline Ryanair and its subsidiary Lauda saw significant growth, carrying 6.6 million passengers, an 11.6% increase year-on-year, and capturing nearly 21% of the market.
AUA, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, transported 14.6 million passengers last year, a 5.2% rise compared to 2023. This growth was outpaced only by Eurowings, which saw a 12.9% increase, carrying 787,000 passengers, according to Vienna Airport figures.
Budget airlines now account for approximately 30% of passenger traffic at the Austrian hub.
