Austrian Railways (ÖBB) has unveiled changes to its Advantage Card (Vorteilscard) scheme, reducing the price of the Vorteilscard Classic from €99 to €71 while discontinuing the popular Vorteilscard 66.
The Vorteilscard 66, which has cost €66 since 2017, will no longer be available. Customers who previously used this option will now need to opt for the “Classic” card at €71. ÖBB described the move as an effort to “streamline the product range for customers.”
Discounts for Travellers
The revamped “Vorteilscard Classic” offers a 50% discount on ÖBB standard tickets for one year. While ÖBB currently has around 820,000 Advantage Cards in circulation, the company declined to disclose how many customers hold either the “Vorteilscard 66” or “Classic,” citing competition laws.
Other Options Still Available
Although the “Vorteilscard 66” is being phased out, several other Advantage Card options remain on offer:
- Comfort Card (€86): Includes half-price tickets and seat reservations.
- Family Card (€19): Provides free travel for up to four children under 15 for a year.
- Youth Card (€19): Offers discounted travel for young people up to 26 years old.
- Senior Card (€29): Grants discounts for passengers aged 65 and over.
The changes come amid speculation that users of the climate ticket (Klimaticket), an annual pass allowing unlimited travel on all public transport across Austria, could see price rises under the country’s new government.
