Vienna’s firefighters tackled a large roof fire in the 23rd district, Liesing, on Wednesday morning, according to the fire brigade.
Fire service spokesperson Christian Feiler reported that the crews responded with “25 vehicles and 100 personnel.” Thirty-five people were evacuated from the building on Ketzergasse and handed over to Vienna’s emergency services, with one person reportedly suffering from smoke inhalation.
The alarm was raised just before 5:00 a.m. “Initially, it was reported as a room fire, but it turned out to be a balcony fire,” said Feiler. “While extinguishing the flames, the incident commander noticed that parts of the roof were also affected. As a result, the alarm level was raised to 3.”
The fire brigade tackled the blaze using aerial ladders and multiple hoses. They then employed chainsaws to open up the roof for further extinguishing efforts.
