Starting from Monday, September 16, Austria’s Reparaturbonus, or repair bonus, will also cover bicycles without electric motors and bicycle trailers, the Climate Ministry has announced.
Previously, the subsidy only applied to devices with electronic or electrical components, such as e-bikes. Under the scheme, 50% of the repair costs, up to a maximum of €200, can be reimbursed. In addition, a service or maintenance check may be subsidised by up to €30.
Any private individual in Austria is eligible to apply for the repair bonus online here. The application form must then be presented, either digitally or in printed form, to one of the registered repair centres. The repair bonus can only be claimed at these centres.
The full cost of the repair must be paid upfront, after which the subsidy amount will be transferred to the applicant’s bank account.
Repair businesses have been able to register on the repair bonus website since August 7.
According to the Ministry, more than one million devices have been repaired since the scheme was introduced. The funding is part of Austria’s Recovery and Resilience Plan for 2022-2026, supported by EU funds amounting to €130 million, alongside additional Austrian taxpayer contributions totalling €124 million. Of this, €50 million has been specifically allocated for bicycles.
