Public transport across the city and surrounding state of Salzburg will be free this Saturday, September 7, as part of a campaign to reduce car usage.
The campaign, Benzinfrei-Tage (petrol-free days), now in its third consecutive year, also runs from 20 to 24 September, coinciding with the annual Rupertikirtag festival, which honours Salzburg’s patron saint, St Rupert. This period also conoincides with the EU-wide European Mobility Week initiative, which promotes sustainable travel.
Holders of annual transport passes can also enjoy free entry to several of Salzburg’s museums during these days. A full list of participating museums is available here.
Salzburg has already observed two petrol-free days this year, on the last weekend of May.
