In Vienna, U-Bahn services remain disrupted due to flooding caused by severe storms over the weekend, transit authority Wiener Linien has announced. Affected lines include the U2, U3, U4, and U6.
The U2 is only operating between Seestadt and Taborstraße, the U3 between Ottakring and Schlachthausgasse, and the U4 between Heiligenstadt and Friedensbrücke. The U6 is out of service between Meidling and Westbahnhof.
Passengers are being advised to use trams, buses, or other unaffected U-Bahn lines for their journeys. Wiener Linien added that it is currently unclear when normal service will resume.
The storms have also severely impacted Austrian Railways (ÖBB), which has suspended around 40 lines, including services between Vienna and Linz. However, ÖBB’s long-distance trains are operating between St. Valentin and Salzburg, while Westbahn trains are running between Linz and Salzburg.
The southern line from Vienna to Graz is also affected, with services terminating in Mürzzuschlag. Trains to and from Carinthia are starting and ending in Bruck an der Mur.
The line between Vienna Hauptbahnhof and Hegyeshalom in Hungary is also closed, while services between Prague and Graz are now only running between Prague and Vienna.
All night trains have been cancelled due to the line closures.
In light of the disruptions, all national, international, and night train tickets are now valid without train-specific restrictions and can be used until September 22. Tickets for trains affected by the travel warning are eligible for a refund. ÖBB has also extended its travel advisory, urging passengers to refrain from all non-essential travel until Thursday evening.
