Vienna-Bratislava Ship Service Stopped After Incident

Vienna-Bratislava Ship Service Stopped After Incident

The Twin City Liner, Central Danube

The Twin City Liner, a ferry service linking Vienna with the Slovak capital of Bratislava, was suspended on Saturday after an incident left the vessel damaged.

According to the operating company, the ship was forced to swerve to avoid an obstacle at 8:42 am, shortly after departing from its mooring at Schwedenplatz on the Danube Canal, resulting in damage to one of the ship’s two hulls.

The company explained that the obstacle originated from the nearby Ostbahn Bridge, which is currently undergoing renovation.

No injuries were reported, and the ship will be transported to the Österreichische Schiffswerften AG in Linz for repairs and inspection as soon as possible.

“It is currently impossible to say when operations with the Twin City Liner will resume,” the operators said in a statement.

Vienna and Bratislava, the two closest European capitals, are connected by road, rail and river, with the journey between them taking roughly one hour.
