The Westbahnhof train station in Vienna has topped a survey of passengers conducted by the Austrian Transport Club (VCÖ).
Around 13,500 passengers shared their assessments across 16 criteria, with the station earning high praise for its bright, welcoming building and easy accessibility via public transport. However, there was some grumbling over cleanliness and the state of the WC and sanitary facilities, which were deemed in need of improvement.
Meanwhile, Vienna Hauptbahnhof, or Central Station, tied for second place with Salzburg Hauptbahnhof. Vienna Hauptbahnhof was also hailed as the most beautiful station, sharing the accolade with Feldkirch Station in Vorarlberg.
At the other end of the scale, Bregenz Hauptbahnhof found itself at the bottom of the list.
In the category of larger stations outside state capitals, Lienz Station in East Tyrol took the top spot, followed by Tulln Station in Lower Austria and Weiz Station in Styria. Lienz Station earned particularly high marks for its accessibility by foot and bicycle, as well as for cleanliness and ease of access.
Among the smaller stations, Frohnleiten Station in Styria was rated the best, with Feldbach Station, also in Styria, and St. Georgen an der Gusen Station in Upper Austria following closely behind.
